Winsley notched up their second win of the season yesterday with a
tight win over Westbury
After winning the toss Jo Breet the westbury skipper chose to bat first on a damp
and green winsley wicket. They promptly got off to a bad start as John Spencer trapped
in form Westury opening batsman Alex Hart LBW from the 3rd ball of the game.

However, Breet then proceeded to consolidate the innings and put together a patient
75 before falling to Winsley spinner Kunal More. The platform had been built which allowed
the Westbury lower order to launch an assault in the final overs which saw Westbury through
to 186-8 at the end of their alloted 45 overs.
The Westbury score seemed 10 over par for the wicket but that target seemed a long way off
when Winsley lost both openers Ellet and O'Leary within the first 3 overs. This only
brought More and Jenkins to the crease who proceeded to add 100 to the score before
More was caught on the square leg boundry from the bowling of Trevor Doleman.
Winsley then lost three more quick wickets with both Cross brothers and Richard Binks
(on debut) back in the pavillion. However, Peter Jenkins continued to bring Winsley within
reach of the Westbury target.
With 18 runs required from 4 overs and 4 wickets in hand the game looked firmly with
Winsley but some fine death bowling from Steve Edwards and Trevor Doleman saw Winsley
requiring 2 from three balls, 2 from 2 balls and then 2 from the last ball of the game.
However, any nerves experienced on the boundry were not shared by the hero of Winsley
as Jenkins lifted Edwards over the top and stole the 2 runs required for victory.
In an exclusive interview with e-Weaver Jenkins said "It was hard work out there but
if you could stay at the crease long enough then the runs come and i think a few of us
showed that this afternoon. Hopefully this can now kick start our season."
Winsley travel to Hampset next saturday in a bid to lift themselves from the relegation
zone.
